At Mosquito Squad, we know how important it is to protect your family from tick-borne disease like Lyme Disease and the Powassan Virus. That’s why we combine our barrier treatment and tick tube treatment to help you protect and prevent ticks from taking over your yard.
During the barrier treatment our technicians will focus on treating areas where ticks rest, breed and feed. These surfaces include shrubbery and foliage (avoiding flowers), tall grass and low hanging vegetation. Adult ticks are eliminated on contact with the treatment and will continue to eliminate ticks for up to three weeks.
For serious tick issues, we recommned combining the barrier treatment and the tick tube treatment in late spring and early to mid fall when ticks are most active.
Tick Tubes provide an easy to use and precisely targeted solution to control ticks. They have proven results showing a 90% reduction of exposure to a tick that could give you Lyme disease. Tick Tubes do not expire, are EPA approved and are made in the USA.
Tick Tubes are a tick control option which can be used alone or for the most comprehensive tick protection, used in combination with our Barrier Treatment.
At Mosquito Squad, we utilize an effective blend of our barrier treatment and tick tubes to eliminate ticks before they can get to you. Our traditional mosquito control spray kills adult ticks on contact, while tick tubes are placed around your property to control the young tick population.
Mosquito Squad controls ticks with tick tubes that rely on the natural nesting instincts of mice and deliver a tick controlling insecticide directly to its home. Tick tubes are made of biodegradable tubes with treated cotton inside. When placed in their environment, mice collect the cotton for bedding. Since most ticks get their first blood meals from mice, they are exposed to the treated cotton, effectively eliminating the ticks.
Tick Tubes should be applied twice a year; once in the spring and again at the end of the summer for optimal effectiveness. The number of tick tubes required varies based on the size of your property and the amount of appropriate area for placement. Our technicians will place them in areas that are attractive habitat for mice, such as woodpiles, foundations, under shrubs, high grass and brush, dense flower beds and under decks.
Keeping your property less attractive to ticks is as easy as 1,2,3 with the 6 C’s of tick control to guide the way.
Reduce tick exposure by clearing out areas where lawn and tree debris gather. Ticks thrive in moist, shady areas. Locate compost piles away from play areas or high traffic.
Eliminate leaf litter and brush by cleaning it up around the house and lawn edges, mow your grass regularly and keep the lawn short.
Select plants and shrubs that are not attractive to deer and/or install physical barriers to keep deer out of your yard. Check with your local nursery to determine the best choices for your area.
Know tick hiding places and check them frequently. The base of fences, brick walls and patio retaining walls are popular hiding places.
Family pets can suffer from tick-borne disease and also carry infected ticks into the home. Talk to your veterinarian about using tick medication. As with all pest control products, be sure to follow directions carefully.
Our Mosquito Squad of North Central Minnesota professionals utilize both barrier sprays that eliminate adult ticks on the spot as well as “tick tubes” that effectively eliminate nymph ticks.
